Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Why do ophthalmologists often refuse cataract surgery if I have had LASIK before?

The reason is that the thickness and curve of the cornea of the person who received LASIK has changed, which makes it difficult to calculate the power of the intraocular lens to be inserted after removing the white turbid crystalline lens. In particular, multifocal intraocular lenses do not look good in perspective when the dioptric power shifts, so more precise intraocular lens dioptric power calculation is required than in normal single focus intraocular lens surgery. Another reason is that few experienced doctors perform both LASIK and cataract surgery, and few doctors actively recommend surgery for post-LASIK cataract surgery.
