    • Contact lens wearing restrictions
      contact lenses may affects the shape of the cornea and the astigmatic power cannot be determined accurately.
    • Check the astigmatism power by performing at least two examination before surgery.

        • 【The reason】

      • For dry eye, the astigmatic power fluctuates depending on the dry condition.
      • If your eyes are tired or ill, your astigmatism will be unstable.
      • If the glasses or contact lenses you are currently using cannot correct astigmatism, you should be aware that the astigmatism power tends to be low in the examination.
      • If you have a strong astigmatic power, it is often difficult to determine the exact astigmatic power.
    • An orthoptist who is familiar with refractive error and its correction is required.
      We have five veteran orthoptists who have many years of experience in refraction and refractive surgery examinations will measure the patient's accurate astigmatism.
  • ２. The key is to properly use ICL without astigmatism and ICL with astigmatism (Toric ICL).

    At our hospital, a surgeon who has abundant experience and achievements in nearly 10,000 cases of ICL treatment will judge the proper use and talk about whether ICL with astigmatism is necessary for patients who can undergo surgery.

  • ３. Astigmatism (astigmatism due to surgical incision) changes depending on the procedure of the surgeon.

    At our hospital, even those who do not use the lens with astigmatism insert the lens from the direction that can reduce astigmatism (major meridian incision).

  • ４. In order to obtain good visual acuity (1.0 or higher) after surgery, it is necessary to reduce the astigmatic power to less than 1.0D by surgery.
  • ５. Postoperative results of ICL with astigmatism (Toric ICL) depend largely on preoperative examination, power of lens’s determination, and surgical technique, so a wealth of knowledge and surgical experience in refraction correction is required.

    At our hospital, 41.4% of those who can undergo surgery (results from February 2019 to December 2020) use toric ICL to correct astigmatism and obtain good naked eye vision. The results are shown below.
