Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

What is the age limit for ICL surgery?

In the refractive correction surgery guidelines of Japanese Ophthalmology Society, the age limit of ICL surgery is 「In principle, patients need to be elder than 18 years old, and fully considering the aging changes of crystallinelens, ICL surgery should be carefully performed for patients with hyperopia」. Clinically, ICL surgery is acceptable for patients aged between 18 and 50 years old, but patients aged around 20 have risk of vision decrease caused by myopia worsening, and patients aged over 45 have the risk of needing to wear reading glasses. Especially for patients aged over 55 years old who already get cataract, it is recommended to undergo cataract surgery with bifoca lenses instead of ICL surgery.
