Many patients visit our clinic every day, and one of the most frequently asked questions is about the wearing time limit for contact lenses.
We have discussed this topic several times in this column, but recently, the restriction on wearing contact lenses before preoperative examinations has been shortened. So, we would like to introduce this update once again!
First of all, many of you may already know that our clinic requires patients to stop wearing contact lenses before preoperative examinations.
Since the restriction period varies depending on the clinic, some patients may find it confusing. However, at Eye Clinic Tokyo, the required period for discontinuing contact lens use has recently changed as follows!
Soft Contact Lenses: 3 days → 2 days
Hard Contact Lenses (when switching to soft contact lenses): 4 weeks → 2 weeks
The reason for this change is that the precision of contact lenses has improved compared to the past, allowing the cornea to return to its original state more quickly!

*Even before the restriction period was shortened, some individuals experienced changes in their prescription during the preoperative examination. So, in that case you may be asked to come to the clinic for another examination.
*This is to ensure accurate measurements, allowing patients to enjoy a more comfortable life after ICL surgery. Thank you for your understanding.
For hard contact lenses, the two-week period applies whether you wear glasses alone or switch to soft contact lenses!
However, if you switch to soft contact lenses, your prescription is more likely to fluctuate. We ask that you wear glasses alone for two weeks if possible.
We understand that restrictions on contact lens use can be difficult, especially for those with strong power, but once all pre-op examinations have been completed, you will be able to wear contact lenses until the day before surgery!
It is also possible to schedule the two preoperative examinations on consecutive days, so please consider this option.
