Patients considering ICL surgery sometimes ask questions such as, “Can I take ICL surgery while pregnant?” and “Can I take ICL surgery while breastfeeding?”
In conclusion, as a general rule, ICL surgery cannot be performed while pregnant or breastfeeding.
There are mainly two reasons.
One reason is that during the pregnancy and breastfeeding, the changes of hormone can temporarily change the cornea thickness and eye refractive condition, which may affect the examination result.
If the degree is determined under the unstable prescription, there is the risk that error may occur of your vision after the surgery.
Another issue is the eye drops such as antibiotics and steroids used before and after surgery may affect the fetus and infants.
To take the safety priority, it’s generally not to take the surgery during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
We recommend that you spend your pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding in peace, and then receive the surgery after your prescription become stable.
As a guideline, our clinic require you to make the appointment for the ICL suitability examination three months after weaning.
